Miscellaneous

Before I leave Chicago for a week to enjoy the manufactured, focus-group-approved experiences vaguely similar to "fun" that can only be offered to visitors of Orlando, FL (my Dad has a timeshare, and he wants to share his time with me), and now that I've finally finished my next-to-next-to-next-to-last quarter of school, I wanted to catch up and mention a few things.
  1. I designed a new logo for myself in class this quarter. My mom didn't get it.

I drew the letters myself. The sans-serifs are vaguely similar to Futura, though the A is much wider and the L slightly narrower. The R I'm very proud of. The downstroke of the R could still be smoothed out a little more below the counter, but I think it turned out well. I'm quite fond of the asymetry of the serif and the slab-serif.

  2. A month ago, I offered up a challenge to do something with my handwriting. Two people entered, and I'd like to thank Harry and DJ for doing more than my art-school friends could muster. Harry was first, and clever:

Thank you, Harry. Your offering made me giggle much. But I'm sorry. DJ won.

DJ's prize: This public mention of his winning-ness.

  3. I honestly don't know how much time I'm going to have on my vacation to do personal stuff (my dad's being very Clark Griswold about the trip, occupying every waking second with activity), but I have a blog to redesign. Please cross your fingers that I can finally make this blog pretty again by the time I'm back. I could use a day of just sitting on a warm back porch with a tall, cold iced tea and a warm Powerbook in my lap and drifting into a Zen of source code.
Hopefully I'll find an internet connection in Orlando so everyone can enjoy the banality of my week.

Don't forget to enjoy an ice-cold Dr. Pepper with some Moon Pies.
