I Gots Me Ideas How You Should Die Too

It's the Schiavo case 'round-the-clock. We all know that the Republican Congress is but a fascistic arm of an evil and demented President, but their behavior in this case is truly amazing. The plight of poor Ms. Shaivo has been upstaged by the naked aggression and tyranny of our nation's most worthless and power-hungry politicians. They talk about the sanctity of marriage and then seek to bulldoze right over the legal rights granted to Ms. Shaivo's husband. But that's to be expected, their hypocrisy when it comes to "family values" is legendary. It seems to me, however, that an oft overlooked facet of this latest development in legislative imbecility is the encroachment of governmental definitions of what qualifies as life or death. Hell and damnation with what we, the people of this nation, think – Bush and his shitball cronies have decided not only that they are more morally capable of drawing a distinction of what constitutes life (be it embryonic, vegetative, or cryogenically suspended), but that they're going to force their nonsense on the rest of us. Bush recently said this:
This is a complex case with serious issues but, in extraordinary circumstances like this, it is always wise to err on the side of life.

Hey fart-huffer, it's actually wise not to "err" at all. One really easy way to avoid "erring" would be to shut your yap and go clear brush at your fake ranch.

Low Culture recently pointed out another hypocrisy of the Shaivo case: capital punishment for the mentally disabled. It's not okay to let someone die who has no control over her actions, but it is okay to execute someone who, uh, has no control over his actions.

"The only reason congress cares about the right to live in a vegetative state is that several of them and members of our administration are in one!" (Funnsylvania comment)

Just want to throw some more indigation into the mix. It's bad enough to have a joyfully pro-death penalty President vomiting his self-aggrandizing talk about the sanctity of life, as you both pointed out. This is also the President who, in one of his first acts as Governor of Texas in 1995, got legislation rolling for a concealed weapons law so folks could bring their guns to church.

On a related note, I pulled this AP article off Yahoo that details additional hypocrisy. There was another article discussing the political backlash the President is starting to suffer. I hope there's a lot more backlashin' yet to come.

What I don't get is why they can't just have her stuffed? If they want to go for ultra-realism they could a little tube in her mouth, like one of those cheesy Chinese rock fountains you buy at Home Depot, so it appears like she continues to drool. That way the husband can be happy that she has gone to a better place, and the parents can still visit their drooling sack of potatoes they call a daughter.

I mean isn't politics about compromise? Geez! When will Washington get with it?
